The Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and Head of Real Assets in the private equity arm of a $1.5T investment organization were concerned that their portfolio was too heavily exposed to energy (oil & gas) and real estate. They wanted to determine whether expanding into timber would diversify and enhance the portfolio. StarPoint partnered with an independent acquisitions specialist to co-author a 65-page white paper on timberland investing that addressed topics such as investment attributes, drivers of return, correlation with other asset classes, key market players, supply and demand fundamentals and capabilities needed to execute a strategy. After reviewing and discussing the findings and analysis with StarPoint and its partner, the client decided to diversify its real assets portfolio holdings and hired a professional internal team to design and execute a multi-million dollar timberland strategy.
